Some RVers struggle with the idea of updating the interior of a newer camper, but that didn’t stop Jackie Williams, a DIYer at heart whose family enjoys summer camping in their 2021 travel trailer.

Their Aspen Trail camper, also known as Rad Ronda, has been updated to reflect the family’s love for the great outdoors and is filled with character and warmth. Jackie has created custom projects for the interior, including a magnetic spice rack, travel memory map, and hand-painted mountain mural (just to name a few!), which she shares on her Instagram page. This camper makeover proves you don’t need a massive budget to create a meaningful and cozy home on wheels.

Tell us a little about yourself and who you share your RV with:

I am Jackie, the queen bee of the house. Being surrounded by all boys (husband, 3 boys, and even 2 male cats), you can imagine how chaotic things can get. So what better way than to take that action to the outdoors and Camp our summers away! Our little home on wheels is just shy of 24ft. Even though it’s small, it is perfect for our family.

It has been our safe space away from home. Although our camper is newer, Being a DIYer, I could not for the life of me leave it untouched. So I’ve been creating little fun spaces in every nook and cranny I can find! It’s become so fun! Renovating a camper is so different from your sticks and bricks home, so I’ve enjoyed the new challenges. We love our Rad Ronda!!

What inspired you to experience #RVlife?

As a kid, we never took extravagant vacations, but what we did do was camp with our extended family, and it was nothing short of amazing. Our imaginations would run wild, and we would run wild through nature. I wanted my kids to feel that feeling too.

We started out tent camping for a few years, then upgraded to the tiniest pop-up camper. We should have known that would only make us crave a camper with walls because it took all of our energy setting up and taking down our walls. So we decided one year later that travel trailer life was the life for us. And it has been the most amazing 2 summers with Rad Ronda.

How long did the renovation take?

It doesn’t really end. We have owned our camper for almost 2 years and it’s been a slow, but good progress.

How much did it cost?

Everything I do is very budget-friendly. I won’t buy anything that isn’t super affordable. Being a stay-at-home mom, I’m not making any income, so I have to get creative and make an impact but keep it budget-friendly so that anyone can do it.

Was this aspen trail camper renovation inspired by anything specific?

Our rig was inspired by nature, adventures, and my boho-style sticks and bricks home.

What project was the most challenging?

Since you have to be mindful of weight, it sets new challenges, and you really have to think outside the box with certain projects.

What are your favorite places to source products and decor?

Amazon, Menards, Walmart, and Dollar General, are where I get most things if they are not DIY or thrifted.

Do you collect anything during your travels?

My whole family loves rocks, so we have collected so many fun ones from our adventures. It’s fun to put a cool rock to a good memory in a specific place.

What do you love most about your RV?

She is small but so RAD! She packed a punch in between her short, thin walls.

What project made the most difference?

Honestly, all of them. But I am pretty proud of the painting I did on the wall behind the bed. It started with a sketch I did on Instagram stories on a picture I had of the back wall. Once I had a vision, I couldn’t stop til it was created.
