about this RV renovation
Type of RV: 1985 Travelcraft Motorhome
Renovated by: Mallory + Justin McCrea / Budget: $25k
This festive motorhome was transformed by Mal and Justin McCrea, who used it as their home base for nearly four years, and it’s still one of my favorite RVs decorated for Christmas. The rustic touches, vintage decor, lights, and fresh greenery give this RV warm, nostalgic, cozy vibes.
Even though Mal and Justin no longer live in this RV, Mal’s sister purchased it and turned it into an Airbnb for all to enjoy! (Be sure to check out the link at the bottom of this post).
Tell us a little about yourself
My husband and I renovated this RV to travel full time in, over the course of a year we worked tirelessly, with my parent’s help while living in their basement, to build out this little home. Ultimately, the rig never made it to the road, but we lived in it full-time for nearly four years while traveling seasonally in a different rig. Now this cozy little home on wheels has a permanent home on the side of a hill in Northeast Ohio as an Airbnb!
What inspired you to experience #RVlife?
We wanted to explore the American West and live a simple, intentional life.
What are your favorite places to source products and decor?
A lot of the work in our rig is handmade!
Do you like to collect anything during your travels?
Rocks!
What’s the most meaningful item you incorporated into the RV interior?
We gutted our rig down to the fiberglass exterior and added plywood walls, and reinforced steel beams for support, and everything is custom, from the teak wet bath to the sliding shower door– every detail was hand-crafted with the help of my carpenter dad! Everything there has meaning to it for us!
What do you love most about this motorhome?
I love the openness and all the windows! It’s why we selected a rig that was 30 years old at the time!
Do you have any favorite Christmas traditions?
We like to spread out catnip for our cats and watch them play in the wrapping paper, make a frittata or some crepes and stay in our jammies until the afternoon!
Do you have any tips for creating a festive RV during the holidays?
Go big! We put little details all over the place even though the space was small, it made it feel so warm and magical.
